Strange, this issue of gender equality. I am baffled at what exactly the UN Women assume gender equality is? The head of the organisation talks about “tackling the yawning gap between men and women when it comes to political leadership and ensuring women have a strong voice in rebuilding economies after the COVID-19 pandemic”. She also says about preserving the reproductive and sexual rights for women?
Is this what gender equality is about? Then it is very shallow. One, because there can never be gender equality. Because you can’t make equal two sub species. They are called men and women for a reason. They have different physiologies, and different mental setups. They cannot be made equal, because they are just different from each other.
They can complement each other, yes. Let us talk about complementing each other. Men are violent and it can be seen from the wars around the world and the environmental destruction. Women are more sensitive to these issues.
A balance of minds in making policies is necessary. But that doesn’t constitute gender equality. It constitutes inclusion of both sexes to come to an optimal solution.
Men are physically stronger and so are gainfully employed in many tasks involving hard labour. For example you will find fewer women employed in the fire-fighting or construction industry. Why isn’t anyone talking of parity here? It’s not possible, for obvious reasons. The bottom line is to learn to respect the difference and co-exist harmoniously. Hope wiser sense prevails.
