I would like to laud the Sharjah Book Authority for their very innovative campaign. If you are an avid reader or a follower of book exhibitions, then you would know the global recognition the Sharjah Book Fair enjoys. In many respects the SBA are pioneers in promoting the love for books globally (‘If you’re into something, you’re into books:’ Sharjah’s cultural campaign to the world,’ Aug. 15, Gulf Today).
Their new campaign is very inspiring to say the least. For sure it is riveting to book lovers. I like how the Chairman of SBA, Ahmed Al Ameri, explained the concept. “No one is born with a book in their hands. However, people with varied interests become lifelong readers when they find that one book that means something to them. This sums up our message: that for every passion, hobby or interest, or anything in life …. there is a book.”
I don’t think it could have been said any better. Literature has the tenacity and the verve to change our lives. It broadens the vision, and it helps us break boundaries. In fact we who are in the UAE are a privileged lot, because there are plenty of book exhibitions, seminars and literature symposiums that take place annually.
Sharjah indeed is a vibrant hub of literature and culture. As a resident of this emirate I feel blessed to a part of the inspiring journey. It is no surprise then that Sharjah is being recognised globally for its immense love and promotion of not only Arabic literature but all works of Art. Kudos once again to SBA. And I am confident their new campaign will go a long way in stirring the passion of reading, globally.
