Who can believe it’s nearly September? This is our last issue of August and as summer slowly but surely draws to an end, we decided to pay homage to all the students going back to school with a cover dedicated to the best movies and TV shows depicting those high school years.
I can’t imagine there is anyone who hasn’t seen the movie “Grease” starring Olivia Newton-John and the legendary John Travolta. The characters and the soundtrack of the 1978 film have stood the test of time and remain extremely popular with fans till now. The film was actually based on a Broadway musical which, at the time, was the longest-running musical. If you haven’t seen this film, it’s definitely time to get to know Sandy and Danny.
The movie “Clueless” came out in 1995 with Alicia Silverstone playing the main character of Cher. I loved this film, even though I was just a child when it came out, and I still love it. Loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel “Emma,” the movie portrays the lives of rich high school teenagers living in Beverly Hills. The film is well known for its witty dialogue and catchphrases.
The musical comedy-drama show “Glee” garnered millions of fans across the globe upon its release in 2009. The show centred around a high school musical club and starred Lea Michelle, Matthew Morrison and Dianna Agron to name a few. Fans were shaken in 2015 by the loss of Corey Monteith who passed away from an overdose. He played one of the main characters, Finn Hudson. Six seasons were released and the show ended in 2015 after winning numerous awards including a Golden Globe for best television series in 2011 as well as 12 Emmy nominations the same year.
