There are so many movies out there just now it can be really confusing choosing what to watch. This week we come to your rescue as we take a look at some of the best original films to watch on Netflix with a list that comprises of Oscar nominated features and possible contenders.
“Marriage Story,” released back in 2019, is written and directed by Noah Baumbach and stars Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver and Laura Dern. The drama film centres around a couple going through a divorce. Dern plays Johansson’s attorney in the movie for which she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. The film was nominated for a total of six Academy Awards as well as another six at the Golden Globes, I definitely think I am going to watch this one first.
“Bird Box” starring the wonderfully talented Sandra Bullock came out in 2018. The horror thriller film directed by Susanne Bier is based on a novel of the same name by author Josh Malerman. I can remember watching this when it came out, it is quite good. There was a lot of hype surrounding this film which features a lot of scary moments and questions which all get answered at the end. This movie did frustrate some viewers, but we do think it is worth watching.
On a different note, historical legal drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” makes for some heavy viewing. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the film tells the story of a group of anti-Vietnam War protesters who are charged with conspiracy and the intention of rioting at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Eddy Redmayne and Sacha Baron Cohen star in the film which received six Academy Awards nominations.
