UAE performs brilliantly in tackling coronavirus

The appreciation by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for the efforts of the National COVID-19 Crisis Recovery Management and Governance Committee is the biggest testimony yet that the Emirates has tempered considerably the impact of the pandemic. At a time when some countries show a daily virus infection rate in thousands, the UAE has registered less than 200 cases, which is simply extremely impressive.
Sheikh Mohamed said on his Instagram account, “We overcame the COVID-19 crisis and learned many lessons from the experience. As life in the UAE begins to return to normal, we give thanks to God.” Even His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has averred that the worst of the pandemic was over. He said during a recent Cabinet meeting, “We have discussed the advancement of the medical sector’s support procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. The worst part is over, and the UAE has worked as one team and created a universal model of addressing the pandemic. “We have approved the policies regulating medical and pharmaceutical products in the country, to ensure the quality of all national medical supplies at all times around the country,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
The Cabinet also adopted a number of initiatives and policies aimed at modernising work in various areas and sectors, and issued a resolution covering the executive regulations of the federal law regulating medical products, the pharmacy profession and pharmaceutical facilities. With daily COVID-19 cases well below 200 over the past few days, the UAE is gradually restoring normalcy. Students are back in schools, people are back in offices and residents are vacationing once again. The UAE Government handled extremely well the situation since the spread of the novel coronavirus in the UAE in March 2020. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that it conducted 364,265 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 48 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensified testing campaign, MoHAP announced 176 new coronavirus cases. MoHAP also announced one death due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 2,104. This tally is very noteworthy, compared to other countries. More than 70,000 new coronavirus cases were reported in America on October 5. Between January 2020 and October 5, 2021, there have over 43 million confirmed cases of coronavirus with 697,000 deaths in the US alone. Russia logged 890 coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday, the largest single-day death toll it has recorded since the pandemic began. Brazil saw over 20,000 coronavirus cases and over 670 Covid deaths on October 6.
The moves by the UAE government to make things as comfortable as possible for residents, particularly women, are praiseworthy. The Dubai Health Authority announced that as part of the expansion of the eligibility criteria for COVID-19 vaccination, women who are breastfeeding and those who are planning to conceive can take the mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech). Furthermore, patients who had COVID-19 no longer need to wait for three months to get the vaccine. They can take it on completion of their isolation, provided the infection was mild or non-symptomatic. The UAE deserved an applause for being the first in the Middle East in the list of best countries that addressed the coronavirus crisis. The nation was also the first country in the world where the number of coronavirus tests surpassed the actual population.
