Incredible Iyer

The Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer got his dream Test debut in Kanpur, against New Zealand at the recently concluded first Test match. He was adjudged as “Player of the Match” also for his incredible innings. One of the most flamboyant cricketers of his generation, he is indeed an extremely talented player. Shreyas had started his international and IPL career on a high note, but due to his injury, he failed to keep up the expectation, but he got his mojo back against New Zealand in his debut Test match. He has announced his arrival in style.

He also went on to become the first Indian batsman to score a hundred and a half-century on his Test debut. This is such an incredible achievement for this young player. Shreyas managed to achieve what legendary Indian players Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, V.V. Laxman and Rahul Dravid could not achieve. This shows his potential and the future.  His fearless style and potential to play long innings will make him a bankable player in Test format also. If he continues playing like this then he will become an asset for an ageing Team India. Shreyas’s coming into the form and his mature innings in his debut only is a good sign for Team India. Team India needs him for the long run, since many senior players are constantly underperforming in Test format. So he has a bright chance to become a permanent middle-order batsman for the country. Let’s hope for the best.
