I really love the Grammy Awards, who doesn’t? It is fun, light-hearted and showcases the best of the music world. However, there is always controversy when the nominations are announced. This week we take a look at some of the biggest surprises and snubs from the recently announced 2022 nominations.
The 18-year-old singer Olivia Rodrigo landed a whopping seven nominations, the third highest total for any given artist this year, including Best New Artist. Her debut single “Driver’s License” broke many records when it came out in January this year. Topping the US Billboard Hot 100, the song made Olivia the youngest ever artist to debut at the top of the charts. Some people are not happy with her being nominated but I really don’t understand why!
Justin Bieber’s eight nominations came as a bit of a shock as he has been somewhat overlooked by the Recording Academy in previous years. Bieber is nominated for three of the “Big Four” categories with Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Bieber also landed Pop Solo Performance for “Anyone,” Pop Duo/Group Performance (with Benny Blanco) for “Lonely,” as well as Pop Vocal Album, R&B Performance and Music Video.
The Swifities are upset about Taylor Swift being nominated for only one Grammy this year. Last year she won Album of the Year for “Folklore” and this year she is nominated for the same award for her album “Evermore.” Angry fans have been making their feelings very clear on social media. Interestingly, her rerecorded “Red (Taylor’s Version)” is the number one album in the US right now.
