It is that time of year where we are taking a look back at all the events that occurred in 2021. This week we are delving into Hollywood to list what we think are the best movies of the year. Although Covid did wreak havoc at the cinemas, it did not stop the good films from coming.
Writer-director Adam McKay came out with a winner with “Don’t Look Up.” The satirical science fiction film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as amateur astronomers who try to warn the world about a comet that is coming towards earth. In a comedic way the movie talks about serious issues such as climate change. The cast is stellar with Ariana Grande, Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett all having roles. This is definitely one to watch.
One of the most talked about movies of the year is “Spencer,” starring Kristen Stewart as the late Princess Diana. While I have not watched this one yet, anyone who has watched it has praised it. Director Pablo Larrain’s does a good job showing how restricted the life of Diana was. Stewart of course, has received a lot of positive reviews for her role with some critics commenting that she “brought the Princess back to life.”
Will Smith has received great reviews from critics for his role as the father of tennis players Serena and Venus Williams in the film “King Richard.” Smith plays Richard Williams in the biographical drama film which depicts the life of the Williams family. Richard was his daughter’s tennis coach and mentor as they began their tennis careers. The movie has received positive reviews from the critics and has grossed over $24 million.
