Mental health is a big issue and these days many people are suffering. The more awareness we raise and the more we talk about it the more we will reduce the stigma surrounding it. I am so happy to see that more and more people are opening up and asking for help. This week we take a look at the serious issue of depression.
Firstly we need to understand that depression is not about just feeling sad or feeling distressed in a moment. Sadness has been used to describe depression but it’s more than that. Depression ranges from low moods to full on debilitating days. Depression is numbness, loneliness, hopelessness and so much more.
Asking for help is the first step towards healing. Anyone who is suffering from depression should know that they are not alone. The deeper the depression, the longer it will take to heal but there is always hope.
Going for therapy is vital for anyone who is going through this. A therapist will help you how to work through your pain and teach you coping skills so that you can begin to heal. Some ways to deal with depression include acceptance, compassion and having a routine.
To have a routine is very important. One should stick to a schedule and include some exercise in their day. It is amazing how these little changes can lead to a better life.
The main message in all of this is that nobody should suffer in silence. The pandemic has given many people mental health issues and made things worse for those already suffering. The more awareness we bring to this serious matter the better.
