As part of the Dubai Public Library (DPL) summer camp, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is holding a used-book fair. (“Buy used books for as low as Dhs2 at Dubai Public Library summer camp,” July 31, Gulf Today website).
The camp’s activities coincide with the ‘Hatta Used-Book Fair’, which will display 2,588 books for both adults and children, including Arabic novels, finance, poetry, children’s stories and many other genres at an approximate price ranging between Dhs2 to Dhs10 which I think is affordable for everyone.
I believe purchasing used books cuts costs and allows a reader to buy more books along with helping the environment. I often notice people who think moving to e-reading will completely resolve the issue of recycling books, however, with the trillions of books presently in circulation, the surplus of supply to demand for physical books would result in a tremendous negative impact on the environment, producing a large amount of wastage.
Ideally, it is preferable to buy old books, which is why if you ask me, this book fair is a perfect example to encourage kids to do so.
