Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Monday set a couple of records as he struck a half-century to rescue the hosts from a precarious position in the opening Test of the series against New Zealand. He now holds the record for the most runs scored by a Pakistani batter in a calendar year and the most fifties or more scored in a calendar year (“Babar Azam breaks multiple records in Karachi Test,” Dec.26, 2022, Gulf Today online edition.) The Pakistan captain broke the 16-year-old record for most runs scored by a Pakistan batter in a season held by Mohammad Yousuf in the first innings of the opening Test against New Zealand. Babar is one of the best batters of this generation. He has impressed lots of former cricketers with his extraordinary achievement. He is one of the few batters at the moment who is good across all the formats. I am a big fan of the skipper. I admire his rise and rise at the international level. He is just 28 and I am sure he will achieve many more milestones in his career.
