With 2023 upon us, we turn to the world of cinema to see what Hollywood has got in store for us over the next year. This week we take a look at some of the most interesting titles that are due for release and bound to draw in huge audiences.
One of the most highly anticipated releases has got to be “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the doll couple Barbie and Ken. The romantic comedy directed by Greta Gerwig is based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel and will be the first live-action Barbie film. Many big names will feature in the cast including Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Issa Rae and Kate McKinnon.
In the romantic, Sci-Fi movie “Poor Things,” Emma Stone plays a mother who suffers abuse at the hands of her husband and dies only to be brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist who gives her a new brain. The film is actually based on a novel of the same name by author Alasdair Gray. Stone is a brilliant actress so there’s little doubt that this will be a good film.
Timothee Chalamet will be taking on the role of Willy Wonka in the new “Wonka” film which is a prequel to the original 1971 movie starring Gene Wilder. That was my favourtie version, not the film that came out in 2005 with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka although both Wilder and Depp received Golden Globe nominations for their performances. Apparently this new movie is a musical and tells the story of how a young Wonka met the Oompa-Loompas on one of his earliest adventures.
