Climate change is inevitable, irreversible and disastrous (“Indian states feature on world’s top 50 facing climate risk,” March 1, Gulf Today website). The report “Gross Domestic Climate Risk” is alarming as well as balanced. Balanced because the countries who generate the largest carbon footprint are also going to suffer a lot due to disastrous consequences. The rule of karma. So, they must be cautious about their reckless actions today. They are supposed to take the leadership role to mitigate the impacts of climate change well ahead of 2050. But I think, they are not doing enough.
For example, the state of Kerala, ranked 52 in report, only started industrialisation just now. Maximum damage to Mother Earth is happening there these days in the name of development. Deforestation is going on in the name of infrastructure building. Lack of awareness about climate change inspires people to commit any heinous crimes against Mother Nature.
For the US, China and India this is an opportunity. An opportunity to take the leadership role to reduce the impact of climate change to the maximum possible extent.
