Whatever social media platform we open we seem to be inundated with useless but juicy news of which celebrity has done what. This week we take a look at the somewhat shady ethics behind the world of online celebrity gossip accounts.

When it comes to celebrity news, it seems like nothing is too small or too trivial for us to hear about. The line which stops journalists from chasing down a story from a celebrity has long been crossed. There are specific online accounts across various platforms which dedicate their posts to telling us everything we do not really need to know about every A-lister and Z-lister.

Lately there have been more and more celebrities speaking up about such accounts. Actress Florence Pugh recently revealed how incredibly wrong it is that people feel they can have so much access to her life. The gossip accounts encourage members of the public to document any sort of celebrity sighting, and Pugh mentioned how bad this is. Even Adele has said that she can never do anything “normal,” as it will end up on a celebrity gossip site.

The news on these sites is not always correct. There has been speculation recently about Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet being a couple. While there has been no official acknowledgement or sign that this is true, their every move has been documented and talked about.

While false information is reported, these accounts do get it right sometimes. It was first reported on an Instagram account about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s split. In the end that piece of news turned out to be very much true.
