While watching a television show or a movie, one tends to become invested in a number of ways. We don’t only invest our time, but usually our emotions and feelings too. This week we are taking at what happens when tragedy strikes in a show or movie we are watching, with some pretty famous examples to go by.
“The OC” was a teen show that ran for four seasons from 2003-2007. Centred around a bunch of well-off teenagers living in California, the show gained a huge audience all over the world. The plot was brilliant, the characters were excellent and they were played by the perfect actors. One of the main characters, Marissa Cooper played by Mischa Barton, ended up being killed off in the third season. This was a huge mistake from writers as the fourth season ended up not doing as well. I recently rewatched the whole four seasons and her death still came as a shock after all this time.
“Dawson’s Creek” is another one of those teen shows that can stand the test of time. It launched the careers of Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and James Van Der Beek. There was another character however who did not get the recognition she deserved at the time. Michelle Williams ended up dying on the show before her character really had time to develop. Interestingly though, out of that whole cast Williams is the one who has gone on to do the best in terms of her acting career with five Oscar nominations and numerous other nominations and wins.
