Sharjah is the third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The city is a centre for culture and industry.
According to the newspaper report, 61 per cent of the emirate’s population is part of the active workforce, offering a positive outlook on the ever-increasing opportunities to work and invest in Sharjah’s fast-growing and diversified economy. The numbers indicate an incremental growth of the population, workforce and student figures in Sharjah. These findings not only underscore the emirate’s commitment to growth but also underscore its efforts in fostering diversity, inclusivity and integration among various nationalities who call Sharjah home and play a vital role in shaping the future of the emirate. (“Sharjah population hits 1.8m with a 61% active workforce”, Gulf Today, May 25).
Sharjah is one of the most diversified emirates in the UAE and the region.
The good thing is the working population in Sharjah has also increased by 22 per cent since the last census report was published, increasing from 856,000 in 2015 to 1.1 million in 2022.
At the heart of Sharjah’s socioeconomic success is a young and highly skilled workforce that actively contributes to the development and advancement of various sectors. The census results also revealed that the percentage of students in the emirate has grown by 23 per cent, reaching 310,000.
Last year’s Investopia report highlighted the emirate’s competitive advantages and investor-friendly environment, explaining that healthcare, transport and logistics, agritech and fintech are among key sectors that will drive the next generation of foreign direct investments in the emirate.
Investopia is a UAE-based global summit organised in partnership with the World Government Summit Organisation to foster dialogue on the future of emerging markets and world economies.
