There is something magical about the Cannes Film Festival. From the movies that premiere to the stars that attend, there is always so much buzz around the event which takes place in the south of France signalling the start of a glorious European summer. This week we are taking a look at the highs and lows of the 76th Cannes Film Festival through the eyes of two renowned film critics.
One of the main movies which premiered at the festival was “Asteroid City” by director Wes Anderson. While not a favourite among all critics, the movie received a six-minute standing ovation after its first screening. The star power attached to this film is huge. Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, Ed Norton, Matt Dillon, Steve Carell, Jeffrey Wright, Margot Robbie, Jeff Goldblum and Jason Schwartzman are among the famous ensemble cast.
“The Delinquents” had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival. This Spanish language film is a comedy-drama about a heist gone wrong and all that happens because of it. It is quite an achievement to be chosen for the Un Certain Regard section of the festival which features 20 films with unusual styles and non-traditional stories seeking international recognition.
