While the weather is still undoubtedly hot, one can’t deny the hints of fall that can be felt in so many ways. In keeping with the fall theme, this week we take a look at some of the spookiest movies that have come out in the past year.
The movie “The Boogeyman” by director Rob Savage is based on a short story of the same name by Stephen King from 1973. The supernatural horror stars Sophie Thatcher, Vivien Lyra Blair, David Dastmalchian and Chris Messina. The film tells the story of two sisters and their father who are struggling to come to terms with the loss of their mother. The movie received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences.
Another year, another “Scream” film. This seems to be the reality of this ever so popular movie franchise. Back with a sixth installment is “Scream VI” and reprising their roles are Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Hayden Panettiere as well as the franchise veteran Courtney Cox. The film did well at the box office grossing a total of $169 million worldwide with audiences loving that it was gorier than previous movies. I wonder if there will be a seventh movie in 2024?
Another film that made our scary list is “M3GAN.” I am not really a fan of horror movies but I did find this one quite entertaining. “M3GAN” tell the tale of a creepy, artificially intelligent doll that becomes self-aware and turns bad. Actress Amie Donald portrays the doll while Jenna Davis voices the character. The marketing campaign for this movie was hugely successful and social media was full of hype about the doll after a clip of her dancing was released.
