We are only two months from the announcements of the Academy Award nominations. This week we are taking a look at two of the main contenders which we think are going to dominate most of the categories.
The movies “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” were undoubtedly two of the biggest movies of the year. People flocked to the cinemas to watch them, some even multiple times. What’s funny is that the genres could not have been more opposite. Nevertheless, these films are now serious contenders for the Oscars.
“Barbie,” starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera and many more big names, made more than $1.4 million in box office sales. “Oppenheimer” on the other hand grossed nearly a billion dollars worldwide. That’s seriously impressive.
The movie is about “the father of the atomic bomb” played by Cillian Murphy. We think that both these films will be in the running for Best Picture.
When it comes to Best Actress, Margot Robbie is most definitely a serious contender for her portrayal of the universally loved Barbie doll. For Best Supporting Actress, “Oppenheimer” will be in the running with Emily Blunt’s performance as Oppenheimer’s wife. How- ever, America Ferrera shouldn’t be overlooked for her performance in “Barbie.”
For Best Supporting Actor, Cillian Murphey is of course the main contender. In “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling did quite a good job as Barbie’s love interest Ken, so he may be a contender for Best Supporting Actor.
“Barbie” director Greta Gerwig and “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan are both possible options for nominations. Nolan has been nominated before but never won while Gerwig has never been nominated.
