An explosion at a fireworks factory in central Thailand which killed about 20 people is so unfortunate and sad (“Fireworks factory explosion kills 20 in Thailand,” Jan.18, Gulf Today website).
According to the report, the information office of the Suphan Buri provincial government initially announced that 23 people had been killed in the mid-afternoon blast, but on Wednesday night revised its figure to 19 dead and three missing. The National Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s earlier preliminary figure had been at least 20 people killed.
There is no doubt that it was an unfortunate incident of an explosion at a fireworks factory where a huge number of people are working for their living, but the Thailand government should conduct an independent inquiry into the event and find out the reason of explosion and make sure that the unfortunate incident does not recur in future. If the government finds any negligence on the part of the owner of the company then it’s so important to deal with it according to the laws of the country.
I am sure the Thai government will play its role compensating families of victims of a fireworks factory and provide full health facilities to the injured.
