Today is Aug.15. I grew up celebrating India’s Independence Day. Memories of visiting my school and performing skits on the life of freedom fighters, then receiving sweets and lots of appreciation from teachers will remain in my memory forever. I remember we were taught about sacrifices made by our leaders during the freedom struggle. Later, we would roam around in our locality entire day carrying the Indian flag. It was indeed a memorable moment for me while growing up in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Now, I have been living in Dubai for almost 19 years and did not get the opportunity to be in India during Aug.15 celebrations, but I make sure to visit the Indian Consulate with my children every year to show them our glorious historical past.
I always feel that children should know about India’s history. I am happy to see India celebrating its 78th Independence Day today and I have been witnessing it in Dubai. It is a proud moment for all Indians. I must appreciate our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the country to a brighter future. We, Indians are fortunate to have such an inspiring leader who is helming our ship with utmost care. I wish Happy Independence Day to all!
