The Dubai Cup 2019 final was an afternoon packed full with polo action matched with activities and great prizes for the spectators to enjoy at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.
The subsidiary final was a round robin match between Hesketh, Kingpins and Dubai Wolves and Kingpins walked away victors as it triumphed over the two teams and scored 4-3 against Dubai Wolves and 4-3 over Hesketh.
The final match had Abu Dhabi take on the initial lead which Habtoor Polo took over fast and strong by the second and closed the penultimate chukker with a five-goal advantage. Both teams continued intensely, and Abu Dhabi tried scored additional goals in an attempt to close in on Habtoor. The game capped off with the sound of the buzzer with Habtoor still on the lead and ultimately won the Dubai Cup at 9 goals to 6.
Yasir Al Safi, Founder of Art Perfume, awarded the winner and runners-up of the tournament. Tomas Panelo was named as Most Valuable Player while Cometica adjudged as the Best Playing Pony.
The Dubai Cup was sponsored by Arabian Electricians (ARABEL) has established itself as a highly reputable and professional organisation, achieving good Engineering standards.
The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series held in the UAE is one of only five tournaments in the world played in the WPT Championship Cup category, on a par with world-class events held in Argentina, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. It was founded by its Chairman Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009.
The Silver Cup and the Dubai Challenge Cup falls under the World Polo Tour (WPT) Challenge Cup Category awarding the winners of the Silver Cup with 50 points, the finalists with 25, semi-finalists with 10 and the rest of the players with 5 points; and Dubai Challenge Cup winners with 20 points. The Gold Cup is under the WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition in terms of points, awarding its winners with 80 points.
