Topping off a full weekend of motorsport action at Yas Marina Circuit, the fourth and final round of the Zayed Sport Tournament Karting Championship on Thursday saw Oryx Racing claim the number one leaderboard spot, followed by Abu Dhabi Racing and Alkaabi Team.
The Zayed Sports Tournament karting event took place on the 1-kilometre Yas KartZone powered by First Abu Dhabi Bank, and was a closely fought battle among the 20 teams that entered from across the UAE including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain, with the top three teams winning Dhs25,000, Dhs10,000 and Dhs5,000 respectively.
A hard-fought competition, with drivers from across the region also saw young racing stars of the future, Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi, both drive for runners-up Abu Dhabi Racing in the mixed-ability tournament.
Also taking place over the weekend, boys and girls aged between 7 and 13 went head to head on the Circuit’s purpose-built drag strip in the inaugural Junior Dragster Challenge at Yas Marina Circuit. Featuring a field of up-and-coming young racers, the competition was won by Rashid Khalid Albloushi, with Ghina Fadi Tamour runner-up, followed by Hazza Rashid Al Jabri, who also claimed the ‘Best Reaction’ prize to complement his third place.
Elsewhere on the Circuit, Round 2 of the Ramadan Drift Cup saw some real sideways action on the track as the leading drift drivers battled it out in the latest round of this visually engaging and dynamic competition.
And continuing celebrating the spirit of Ramadan at Yas Marina Circuit, the Thursday and Friday saw the third in its series of Motor Majlis weekends, which has brought together 17 car and owners clubs and more than 200 cars at the home of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix during the last month.
Drawing participation from car, bike and truck owners clubs from across the UAE, including Super Car Majilis and Al Ain Classic Car Club, the Motor Majlis nights featured a range of modern street, supercars and vintage classics on the track with everything from a 1920s Model T Ford to the futuristic McLaren P1.
A resounding success and something that will surely return in the future, participants and spectators alike were treated to on- track photo opportunities with their vehicles on world’s most iconic F1 track.
In addition to the extensive year-round programme of professional and grassroots motorsport events and experiences including Drag and Yas Track Nights, the circuit has emerged as a thriving hub for entertainment and community events in the UAE.
