UAE golfers return from Ireland with rich experience

The UAE golfers returned on Sunday after attending a summer camp at two of the Ireland’s finest golf clubs. The participants of the National Junior and Ladies Golf Programmes spent 12 days at the Carton House and The K Club focusing on golf fundamentals and preparations for the upcoming international competitions.

34 players took part in the training programme and were supervised by four coaches from Emirates Golf Federation (EGF). EGF delegates were also part of the delegation.

“Every year we take this time to reward our Juniors and Ladies for their hard work and commitment to the UAE golf programme,” said Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi, EGF National Team Manager, and Secretary-General.

“Training at Carton House and The K Club was something that these young golfers will remember for the rest of their lives.”

“This opportunity also gives our coaches time to evaluate each player while setting new goals for the upcoming season,” added Shamsi while praising the players at the camp for the remarkable progress and improvement in the overall performance.

13 female golfers were also in the squad. “One thing that we are proud of this year is that 13 ladies took part in the camp which shows the growth of our Ladies Programme and the success that our new ladies national team coach has had over the last six months,” said Shamsi.

Staying true to the recently signed ‘Women in Golf Charter’ from the EGF and UAE golf we are working towards increasing the number of women and girls participating in the sport.

During the camp the performance of the players was evaluated so as to form a Ladies Team, Boys 18 and Under Team, and Boys 15 & and Under Team.

This is in preparation for the Asian Pacific Golf Confederation Junior Championship, the Arab Golf Championships, GCC Golf Championship, and the EGF Order of Merit Schedule.

Shamsi also thanked Sheikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, President of the Emirates Golf Federation, for his unwavering support for the growth of golf.

For the past three years, most of the players have been training at their home golf club across the UAE and are now ready for competitive golf.

This is also a product of the National Junior Development Program that has been developing and identifying national talent.

The EGF expressed their eagerness to see these players progress into the UAE National Golf Teams.

The delegation was headed by Shamsi while Junior National Team Head Coach, Samir Wallani and Ladies National Team Coach April Varney were also part of the delegation.
