Following the success of the first and second editions of the Labour Sports Tournament, the Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah (LSDA) has begun preparations to launch the third edition of the tournament.
The event is part of the Authority’s strategic plan to establish sport as a way of living for workers and also to entertain them. Organized in cooperation with the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) and Reach Target Sports company, the tournament also aims to promote healthy relationship between workers and employers based on transparency and better understanding.
The tournament includes holding several sports competitions among workers in a number of sports, such as football, hockey, cricket, basketball, volleyball and others. The tournament will be held on weekdays, from Dec.13 until March 27, 2020, at the Sharjah Sports Council Stadiums in the Sharjah National Park, opposite Sharjah International Airport.
Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah, said, “The Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah was established under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to enhance the labour environment in Sharjah to attract both workers and employers.
“Sports brings together individuals and communities irrespective of their nationality and ethnicity. It plays an important role in developing the spirit of cooperation and competition among all, fosters teamwork and contributes to building bridges of acquaintance between all. All these values are integral parts of the LSDA’s strategy that has been developed under the direct supervision of Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council.
Qaseer added: “Sports contribute to raise the level of fitness among workers. This was evident in the first and second edition of the tournament and the increasing number of participants. The tournament will be a good opportunity to meet with all categories of workers, and acquaint them with their rights and obligations towards society..”
He pointed out that the tournament will contribute promoting sports as a way of life in the community. The tournament’s various activities are designed to contribute in improving the cultural, intellectual and health levels of workers.
The tournament aims at spreading happiness among workers, utilize their leisure time with useful physical activities, to positively affect the community, and contribute in promoting sport as a way of life. The tournament also provides the chance for workers to exercise and practice their favorite sports activities.
Cash and gift prizes worth up to Dhs250,000 were allocated for the winners. Some special fan areas, were allocated to enable families of employees and workers to spend happy times full of events. Children’s play areas will be allocated under the supervision of qualified trainers to provide children with training sessions in fitness, table tennis and football.
