Top leaders from sports fraternity to attend DIAS

DUBAI: Officials representing different international sports federations will be in Dubai next week as the Dubai World Trade Centre’s Sheikh Rashid Hall hosts the first Dubai Artificial Intelligence in Sports (DAIS) Conference and Exhibition on Oct. 14 and 15.

Being organised under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), by DSC, the two-day DAIS Conference and Exhibition will bring together top decision-makers from the world of sport and leading names from the world of Artificial Intelligence for discussions on the scope of AI’s ability to enhance every facet of the global sports industry.

Officials representing FIFA, USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA), International Skating Union (ISU), International ESports Federation, Formula E Championship and the International Chess Federation will be joining the likes of Prof Marc Raibert, founder and CEO of Boston Dynamics - a robotics company known for creating BigDog, Atlas, Spot, and Handle – and Christian Guttmann, a leading scientist and entrepreneur in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science at DAIS.

Arkady Dvorkovich, President of International Chess Federation (FIDE), will be sharing the dais with Prof Raibert, Guttmann and Stephane Houdet, a French wheelchair tennis player and former world No1, in the opening session of the Conference titled, “Looking Ahead at the Future of AI in Sport”.

Colin Webster, President of International ESports Federation, will discuss “Innovation and Development in Sports” on Day 2, alongside Dr Alexis Champion, who holds a PhD in Informatics (Artificial Intelligence), and Dr Alessio Rossi, a PhD in “Biomedical Research” and Post-Doctoral Researcher at University of Pisa where he has co-authored a study titled “Effective injury forecasting in soccer with GPS training data and machine learning”.
