The first round of the Women's Football League 2019-2020 kicked off on Monday at the New York University in Abu Dhabi.
Organised by the Women's Football Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the UAE Football Association and the Sheikha Fatima Academy Bint Mubarak Women's Sports
Abu Dhabi Sports team defeated Regional Sports, while the UAE under-19 team beat Lionel FC.
Houriya Al Taheri, the technical director and member of the women's football committee, confirmed that the arrangements made by the clubs in preparation for the new season are promising, and are a good indication of a strong competition between the teams.
“It is evident that the athletes’ have a great desire and determination to work towards being the greatest champions,” she said.
“We hope the fans continue to support and encourage the teams, as they are the main motivation for them to achieve the greatest results.
“We are giving young women players the opportunity to join these leagues and participate in the women's league in order to enhance their level and deliver the required performance. Seeking the Committee of Women's Football to apply its deep future vision in the development and progression of the UAE women's football.
“This contributes to supporting the interest of all national teams of different age groups, thus allowing the technical staff of these young national talents to choose the distinct elements according to their technical vision,” Houriya added.
The matches of the current round will be completed by next Saturday, Nov.16, which will bring together Regional Sports with Sports team Hanover as well as Lionel FC team and La Liga team.
