The seventh edition of the highly popular Friendship Cup will be held at the SD College Ground at Alleppey on Nov.30 and Dec.1.
Kerala Overseas Cricketers (KOC), which is a group of former cricketers who represented Kerala state in Ranji trophy as well as junior state level during 90s, will fly out on Thursday to take part in the tournament.
KOC will take on Kerala Veterans Cricketers (KVC), also made up of mostly state-level cricketers. KVC will be led by former Ranji player Chandrasekhar.
The Friendship Cup, supported by Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), had commenced from 2013 and the tour is sponsored by Ghee Rice Restaurant, Dubai and co-sponsored by Blue Oceans, PUCA, Dadabai Travels, Energizer and More Ideas.
KOC Players are currently based all over the globe, predominantly in the GCC and the Far East.
The concept KOC was evolved in 2013 with an objective of bringing all former Kerala state cricketers under one umbrella to revive and strengthen their camaraderie all over again.
Currently, KOC have 25 former Kerala state cricketers as its group members, who have represented the Kerala State at various level.
Friendship Cup has been organized annually since its inception in 2013 with the support of KCA.
Every year, KOC felicitates former Kerala Ranji players in a grand function held at Cochin for acknowledging and remembering their overall contributions to Kerala cricket.
This year KOC will be felicitating T Shivadas, PG Ganesh, Soman (All former Ranji Trophy Players of 80s) along with Anish, World cup Indian team member (Differently abled), and Chandrasekhar (prominent club cricketer).
Faisal, Chairman of Ghee rice restaurant chain, said, “We have been a part of KOC since past two years now and it is our strategy to come closer to the community as this game is bringing people together and uniting them. Our association with KOC is really satisfying.”
