Abu Dhabi: The inaugural National Day Shooting Championship, organized by Al Forsan International Sports Resort to celebrate UAE’s 48th National Day “Legacy of Our Ancestors”, concluded recently.
The tournament saw 18 teams representing eight entities and institutions from the UAE, with eight women’s teams from seven government entities, and ten men’s teams representing eight government entities were battling it out for the title.
In the final day of the men’s competition, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (B) team took the lead with 407 points, followed by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (A) team with 399 points. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department team came third with 389 points.
In the women’s competitions, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) (A) team took the first place after collecting 405 points. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship team was the runner-up with 361 points, followed by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) (B) team, in the third place with 371 points.
In men’s teams, Saleh Al Junaibi of Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (B) team won the Best Shooter award, while Sherina Ali of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) (A) team won the Best Shooter award in women’s teams.
As the final day came to an end, Khalifa Al Hemeiri, CEO of Al Forsan Holding, presented the winning teams with the awards, in the presence of representatives from the participating entities.
He congratulated the winning teams while wishing the remaining teams the best of luck in future tournaments. Hemeiri stressed out that the inaugural tournament was a huge success in both the number of participating institutions and the excellent levels of competitions.
He expected the second round of the tournament to be even bigger and more comprehensive, in terms of the number of participating teams and the number of government and private institutions wishing to take part in the event.
“Al Forsan International Sports Resort is keen to develop the sports movement in Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general. This championship is particularly special as it celebrates the UAE’s National Day, an occasion cherished by all Emiratis. The occasion also documents the birth of our glorious country by the founding ancestors, headed by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Hemeiri added.
Hemeiri thanked Tawazun Economic Council for sponsoring the tournament. He also revealed that the resort is considering organizing similar tournaments across various sports, including football, basketball and other individual and team sports. This is part of the resort’s goal to promote sporting activities, and help young people unlock their potential. Ultimately, these activities will develop the spirit of competitiveness and instill the desire to succeed among Abu Dhabi citizens and residents
Obaid Juma Al Mazrouei, Operations Manager at Alforsan International Sports Resort and Director of the Championship, thanked the participating teams for their sportsmanship, punctuality and compliance with the safety and security rules of Al Forsan International Sports Resort.
Mazrouei said that the tournament was organized with the highest standards of security and safety procedures throughout the training period and official competitions. He pointed out that the resort has qualified and highly trained technical staff who can manage competitors in such tournaments.
Mazrouei explained that Al Forsan International Sports Resort will soon begin reaching out to governmental and semi-government entities and private companies in preparation for the second round of this annual tournament.
He also said there are there are encouraging and promising indications that the tournament will be further expanded in the future.
