Hosts UAE claimed the silver medal in BC4 Pairs event — their only medal in the competition — as the curtains came down on the 6th Fazza BISFed Boccia Dubai Regional Open Championships at the Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai.
On the final day of competition on Thursday evening, Team UAE comprising Raisa Alfasi, Ayesha Almehari and Bader Al Shamsi, settled for the second place after going down 0-8 to South Korea which had players Seongyuk Jang, Hyeon Seok Seo and Hwijung Kim.
Jang and Seok Seo have been the silver and bronze medallists in BC3 Individual event.
Earlier, UAE recorded big wins over India (12-0) and Indonesia (5-0) in their Pool A games en route playing the final game.
Said an elated Raisha: “I am very proud to represent UAE team and have won a medal today. This will motivate us to do better in the coming year. I also want to thank Dubai Club for People of Determination for holding this Fazza Boccia competition every year as this provide us a great platform to compete against some of the best teams in the world. I hope we can get better results next time.”
Director of Fazza Championships and President of Asian Paralympic Committee Majid Al Usaimi congratulated the UAE team on their success and hoped that more good results will follow for the team in future.
Usaimi later said at the closing: “When we started the Fazza Championships, we started with athletics and now we host six Fazza championships in different disabled sport and Boccia has been an important event among them. So, you all have contributed to the growth of this championships and I wish success for all the players.”
