Riding high on Waqas Ahmad’s 155, MBM Gulf CC defeated Bukhatir XI by six wickets in a BS Champions Trophy season two match at the Eden Gardens in Ajman.
Ahmad knock of 155 came off 65 balls and was studded with 14 boundaries and 13 sixes. This was the second straight victory for MBM Gulf in the tournament as they chased down the target of 230 set up by Bukhatir XI.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bukhatir XI were off to a perfect start as their openers Khalid and Renjith Mani shared an 44-run stand.
Later, UAE international and Bukhatir XI skipper Chirag Suri took to the crease. He put MBM Gulf bowlers to the sword and scored unbeaten 112 off 55 balls. Suri smashed 11 boundaries and six towering sixes. He was well supported by Rizwan CP who scored (44). After Rizwan’s departure, Kashif joined Suri and added quick fire 16 as Bukhatir XI posted 230 for the loss of three wickets from the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, MBM Gulf lost their first wicket with just 10 runs on the board. However, Ahmad took charge and hit the Bukhatir XI bowlers all over the ground. His century took MBM Gulf on the verge of victory.
He was clean bowled by Suri when MGM Gulf required just six runs to win the match. Syed Maqsood and Sami Younus stayed on the wicket as MGM Gulf overhauled the target in 19.4 overs. Ahmad was named man of the match.
Six teams, including Karwan Strikers, ANIB XI, Bukhatir XI, MBM Gulf, Chemietech CC and Phoenix Medicine are taking part in the tournament being played under the auspices of Ajman Cricket Council.
