Sara Hussein Saleh Al Armouti aboard Gladiator emerged winner in the second round of the young riders category of the 20th Sharjah International Show Jumping Championship.
13 male and female riders participated in the event sponsored by Al Shira’aa Stables.
15 riders competed in the children category in which the first place went to Syrian rider Layth Ghrayeb. Ghrayeb under Quapitola SR Z upstaged his much-fancied rivals to take the top honours.
Earlier, in the first round dedicated to young horses (6-7 years old) UAE’s Salim Ahmed Al Suwaidi aboard Quidam JR bagged the first place.
Organised by the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club in cooperation with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation (UAEERF) and under the supervision of the International Equestrian Federation, FEI, the event begin on Wednesday and will conclude on Feb.1.
The 20th Sharjah International Show Jumping Championship is being held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The Sharjah Championship comes just a week before the start of the FEI Jumping World Cup Arab League — His Highness Ruler of Sharjah Cup International Show Jumping Championship, presented by Longines, which is the largest and the highest jumping event being held for the third time in a row in the covered arena at the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club. This championship is the first of its kind at this level in the region and the Middle East in general.
