Sharjah began the season an emphatic way with winning the curtain raiser Arabian Gulf Super Cup. They defeated Shabab Al Ahli to the lift title.
They carried the same form through to the league and remained unbeaten till the ninth round. But after the ninth round, they saw a slump in the form and their campaign was suddenly derailed.
As a result of which they were dismantled form the top of the standings and are currently at the fifth spot in the league with 28 points, eight points adrift to the leaders Shabab Al Ahli.
However, by winning the quarter-final of the President Cup they have reignited their hopes of reviving the faltering campaign.
With just an eight-point deficit, Sharjah still have the chance to catch Shabab Al Ahli in the league and if they can clinch President Cup they still can finish another stellar season with a domestic treble.
However, Sharjah coach already ruled themselves out of the AGL title contention. But Arabian Gulf Cup already in their kitty, Sharjah can still manage a domestic double by winning President Cup.
The match was moderated by a team of referees consisting of Ahmed Salem Khalfan (referee square) Jassem Abdullah (first assistant) Talal Rashid Al Nuaimi (second assistant) Ahmed Hassan Al Hammadi (fourth referee) Saqer Al Zaabi (video referee).
In an earlier match on Saturday, Laba Kodjo smashed four goals and Caio Canedo was twice on the target as Al Ain qualified for the semis of the President Cup with a 6-5 victory over Al Wasl in an 11-goal thriller.
