After making a decision for setting up a specialised wing to train jiu-jitsu athletes, the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club has come up with another exciting news.
This time it is for the taekwondo players. Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club (SSDSC), a body entrusted to promote martial arts in the emirate, announced the launch of a specially designed taekwondo training programme at the club.
The announcement was made during a webinar series which is being hosted by Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club.
Headed by Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Owais, the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club has been hosting a webinar series under the title Sharjah International Forum for Martial Arts under the auspices of Sharjah Sports Council (SSC). Tuesday’s webinar was third in the series which focused on taekwondo.

Tariq Juma Al Suwaidi, Member of the Board of Directors and Taekwondo Supervisor at the club, said: “The new specialised training programme for taekwondo is part of Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club’s vision to promote all self defence sports in the emirate.
“We need to have the next cadre in the self-defence, who are ready to take the challenges further,” Suwaidi said.
Later, speaking during the webinar Egyptian taekwondo star Seif Eissa highlighted the role of family support in the success of an athlete.
“When it comes to training and competition, having the support of family plays a key role in players’ success,” said Eissa, who won silver Summer Universiade Taekwondo Championship in Napoli last year.
Eissa, who has qualified to compete at 20221 Tokyo Olympics, believes that the encouragement and support of family is a key factor in building confidence in an athlete.

“The MBR Award really helped me in shaping my career as it spurred my performance.”
Toumi asserted that every athlete should focus on all-round development that includes sports and academics as the core basics.
“I am doing my degree in Sports Sciences and I am equally eager to win many medals for Tunisia.
“I think I have the adequate drive and passion to achieve both and stand out as an example, not just for my country but for everyone to follow. At one time I was an amateur athlete, but now I know I have to take my sport as an equally serious factor in my life,” she added.
Meanwhile, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) hailed the success of the ongoing Sharjah International Forum for Martial Arts.
Yousef Al Batran, a Board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “Such events offer the support needed for the popularity of a sport like Jiu Jitsu.
“The ideas shared by talented players and coaches during such discussions give the aspiring stars a right track to develop themselves,” Batran added.
