Turf Cricket Club defeated Supernovae by one run in the final to lift the Providence Topaz Cup 2020 trophy. After posting a fighting total of 158, Turf Cricket Club restricted Supernovae to 157 for the loss of seven wickets in a nail-biting finish to lay down their hands on the prestigious trophy.
After winning the toss, the Supernovae invited Turf Cricket Club to bat first. Turf Cricket Club put on a total of 158 run for the loss of six wickets in allotted 20 overs.
Turf Cricket Club’s openers Haroon and Shahzad gave a brisk start in the power play by scoring 50 runs in 6 overs before losing the latter, who scored a quick 31 off 19 balls.
Azhan and Umar joined Haroon on the crease but fell early in quick intervals. Thereafter, Fazly joined Haroon to put up a crucial partnership before he departed after scoring a quick 19 of 13 balls.
Atif came to the crease and added crucial 16 runs before getting out.
Haroon departed after scoring 64 runs of 48 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. Jeewan and Rajitha stayed not out for 8 and 3 runs respectively as Turf Cricket Club reached a total of 158 runs.
In reply, the Supernovae got to a good start with Srivantha in good form. However Umair struck early for Turf Cricket Club & picked crucial wickets of Pankaj, who departed after scoring 13.
Soon afterwards Umair removed Tanveer, who was able to score 12 runs.
Mihir joined Srivantha and had a solid partnership of 55 runs before leaving, after scoring 19 runs.
Satbeer, Jeevan and Avinash bowled tightly in the middle overs and kept the run rate under control which was crucial in the finals.
Towards the end Rajitha came back into the attack and took the crucial wicket of including Srivantha, who scored a fighting 84 of 55 balls with nine fours and one six.
Umar from Turf Cricket Club bowled the last over with only 10 runs required by Supernovae to win, however he managed to restrict the opposition to 8 runs only which some brilliant bowling.
Umar picked up Praveen’s wicket who scored 5 runs while Ahsaan was run out by Rajitha after scoring 9 runs.
