The Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club’s second week of its winter training camp has attracted 80 players from 10 different clubs of the emirate.
The camp offers a number of online training programme’s under the supervision of international trainers including Greek Grandmaster Efstratios Grivas, FIDE Senior Trainer and International Arbiter.
The club’s taking part in the camp are Khorfakkan Cultural and Sports Club, Kalba Sports Club, Al Dhaid Sports Club, Al Madam Cultural Sports Club and Maliha Sports Club, Al Bataih Cultural and Sports Club, Al Hamriya Sports Club, Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled, Girls' Chess Club in Sharjah, Sharjah International Chess Academy and Sharjah Cultural Chess Club.
The camp which began on Dec.12 ends on Dec.30. Jamal Issa Al Midfa, Secretary General of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, thanked and appreciated the support of Sharjah Sports Council.
Stressing that Sharjah Chess Club with all its capabilities and expertise is present to contribute and cooperate in all chess events organised by the Sharjah, Central and Eastern Clubs, Midfa said: “ These camps will help in discovering new talents and promote the game.
Omar Numan Al Ali, Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Head of the Technical Authority, said the winter camp comes as part of the series of events and tournaments organised by the club with the vision to develop young players, and prepare them for the upcoming local and international tournaments.
Ali also expressed happiness over the huge number of participation of young players, which reflects the great desire of sports clubs. The club's technical committee also organised a two-week long International Teams Chess Championship in which 49 players from different clubs of Sharjah participated.
The event carried a prize purse of Dhs13,000.
