G42 joins UAE Team Emirates sponsorship roster

Group 42 (G42), a leading technology company based in Abu Dhabi, has announced its sponsorship of the UAE cycling champions, UAE Team Emirates, effective from the start of the 2021 season.

The 28-member squad, which also includes Tour de France 2020 winner Tadej Pogacar, arrived in the UAE last week for a training camp to get ready for the new season.

The company’s sponsorship deal was announced on Sunday during TrainYas night at Abu Dhabi’s world famous Yas Marina Circuit, where over 1,000 cycling enthusiasts took part in a floodlit night ride on the original Abu Dhabi Grand Prix track. The UAE Team Emirates surprised the public with their guest appearance at the event, joining the many cyclists on the track for a few laps.

G42 CEO, Peng Xiao, commented: “We at G42 are delighted with the new partnership. The UAE Team Emirates is a symbol of excellence for our country, one that has brought our national pride throughout the world. Our collaboration will pave the way for the broad and practical application of AI in the field of sports, where we see tremendous opportunities to improve athletic performance, prevent injuries, and support better decision making across the board.

The new sponsorship deal was made public earlier this week when UAE Team Emirates revealed their new team kit for 2021 with G42 branding on it.

UAE Team Emirate’s CEO and Team Principal, Mauro Gianetti said: “That the new sponsorship deal opened some amazing opportunities for the team heading into the new racing season.

“We are a truly international, diverse and dedicated team and in this we are very similar to our new sponsor, G42. With them on board, we will be able to set even more ambitious goals for the upcoming season, cementing our position in the world’s top tier of professional cycling.”
