Ireland beat UAE in 4th ODI, level series

Curtis Campher (56) and Simi Singh (54) smashed half-centuries as Ireland defeated the UAE in the fourth ODI by 112 runs to draw level the series 1-1 in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

After posting a modest target of 229, Ireland restricted the UAE to a paltry 116 in just 36 overs and squared the four-match series.

UAE had beaten Ireland in the first ODI to take 1-0 lead in the series before the second and the third match were suspended due to a few coronavirus positive cases in the UAE squad.

Ireland got off to a faltering start and lost three wickets with just 10 runs on the board.

Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector shared a 72-run stand for the fourth wicket to revive the innings and took the score to 84-4.

It was Kashif Daud, who triggered the skid but the UAE fail to capitalize on the good start and spurn the chance to mount pressure on their opponents.

Ahmed Raza struck in the quick succession again to bring the UAE back into the game as he got rid of Tucker and Tector with in the space of 17 runs.

Ireland looked set to be out for a meagre total before Campher and Singh shared a 91-run stand for the sixth wicket and took the score to 190. Gareth Delany played a quick-fire cameo of 15 as Ireland posted 228/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing, UAE got off to a decent start as both the openers Vriitya Aravind and Zawar Farid added 46 runs for the first wicket.

But the middle order crumbled under pressure and the UAE batsmen could manage to muster only 116 all out in 36 overs. Singh was the wrecker-in-chief as he returned with a figure of 5-52.
