Arnel Valencia was delighted to be crowned winner of the very popular Westford Sharjah Cup. A brilliant day of golf saw the SGSC member get his name up on the honors board by winning this major event.
A strong field all competed thirty six holes in what was a very challengeing day for golf on a course that is in superb condition.
After the morning round it was David Yeo who was sitting atop of the leader board with a great score of thirty eight points in the windy conditions.
Unfortunately for David he fell away slightly in the second round he still went home with the prize of best net in the morning round.
Eventual champion Arnel had a solid first round of thirty six and was nicely placed just two shots back after round one. Arnel overcame the tough conditions to post another solid round of thirty five points which included four net birdies.
A thirty-six hole total of one over par seventy one points saw Arnel crowned champion. In second place just two shots back was low handicapper Sami Butt whose score of thirty six in round two saw him climb the leader board.
Third place went to Joe Bautista with a thirty six hole total of sixty nine. Also picking up prizes for their efforts on the day were Christopher Bagge who won best gross round one and Andrew Thom who took home best gross round two.
Finally in the net division it was David Yeo who won round one net and Andrew Thom who won round two net with a great score of thirty seven.
In the Gross division it was a familiar face on the stage, SGSC low handicapper Ramli Sulaiman who continued his fine form of late.
Winning the gross division on a total of sixty points. The final prize was for the senior division this was also won by a low handicapper Namir Al Naimi on a score of sixty four.
As always this event was played in a great and highly competitive spirit, with all competitors loving the challenge of the course and praising the sponsors Westford University College for their support in the event.
