The expatriate cricketers from the subcontinent will feature in a novel Occasions Cakes Asian Cup, a four-nation tournament to pick the best squad in Abu Dhabi on their performances.
Players from the four cricket mad nations — India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh — will feature in the inaugural tournament at the Volcano grounds in Shahama, Abu Dhabi, starting from Friday.
Khuram Barvi, the founder of Volcano Cricket and tournament director, said the tournament is open for players from each nation to participate in the preliminary games to pick the best 15 squad to represent each nation in the main competition.
“The objective is to gather the best players for a four-nation tournament among the expatriates,” he said.
“We have received six teams from the Pakistan expatriate community, four from India, two each from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. These teams will play among themselves and the best 15 selected for each of the four participating teams in the final line-up.
“At the completion of the tournament we will select the best team from Abu Dhabi based on their performances. It’s not that they are going to represent Abu Dhabi but just to give an idea of the best team we can create,” Barvi added.
