The second seeded duo of Nikita Burmakin and Tommaso Giovannini won the men’s doubles at the inaugural edition of the BT200 Ras Al Khaimah Beach Tennis Championship held at the Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Hotel and Resort.
The Italian-Russian pairing defeated the Russian duo Kirill Fartukov and Maxim Lonin in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in the final.
The event was held under the supervision of UAE Tennis Federation and supported by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. EMPower Sports Services were the organisers of the event, which carried a prize purse of $15000.
The Italian pair of Giulia Gasparri and Ninny Valentini won the women’s doubles title after defeating Joana Cortez and Flaminia Daina 6-0, 6-3 in the final.
Nasser Yousuf Al Marzouqi, General Secretary of UAE Tennis Federation, gave away the prize to the winners.
Marzooqi hailed the success of the inaugural edition of the BT200 Ras Al Khaimah Beach Tennis Championship. “The tournament managed to draw the world’s attention after projecting Ras Al Khaimah as an ideal place to host such a tournament.
“We are also looking forward to promoting the practice of tennis in Ras Al Khaimah, in a way that contributes to more tournaments,” he added.
Ras Al Khaimah will also host the second edition of the BT200 Championship which will begin on April 16.
