Italy consolidated their position on the top of the standing of the Group A with a win over Wales in the Euro 2020 match on Sunday.
With three wins form as many outings, Italy procured all nine points up for grab. Italy had become the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 after notching up second straight victory against Switzerland in their last game.
Meanwhile, Wales became the second team form the group to qualify for the next round despite the loss. Both Wales and Switzerland have four points each with one win and a draw.
But by virtue of a better goal difference, Wales are second in the group after three matches. The two teams from each group automatically qualify for the Round of 16.
The Italians will play the second-place team from Group C at Wembley Stadium in London next Saturday. The victory also marked Italy’s 11th straight win and clean sheet.
Matteo Pessina scored late in the first half by redirecting a free kick from Marco Verratti. Wales defender Ethan Ampadu was sent off with a straight red card for stepping on Federico Bernardeschi 10 minutes into the second half.
