Matej Mohoric of Bahrain Victorious team clinched stage 19 of the Tour de France after breaking clear for a solo victory several minutes ahead of the main peloton at Libourne on Friday.
It was his second win of the ongoing prestigious tour following his victory in Stage seven. The Slovenian made a gesture of running a finger across the lips horizontally after crossing the finish line.
Mohoric depicted an incredible individual effort and made his move with 26 kms left after spending the day at the front.
Mohoric, who has stage wins at all three Grand Tours and is a specialist of long solo efforts, captured his first Tour stage win by grabbing the marathon stage of this year’s race, a 249-kilometre hilly trek in central France.
Cofidis’ Christophe Laporte was second at 58 seconds followed by DSM’s Casper Pedersen on third.
The Overall leader, Team Emirates’ Tadej Pogacar, comfortably maintained his grip on the Yellow Jersey following his two successive wins in the Pyrenees in the previous two stages.
The 22-year-old, having a huge lead of approximately six minutes over second placed Jonas Vingegaard and Richard Carapaz on third in the general classification, should be crowned champion for the consecutive second year barring an accident.
