The penalty was imposed on the British driver of Mercedes after a deadly crash with the championship leadership Max Verstaoppen.
Verstappen lost control of his car and collided with the barriers in a bid to avoid the crash with Hamilton, who was attacking the Dutch from the beginning. He was taken to hospital for further tests to rule out anything ominous.
Verstappen has been leading the driver’s standing after four victories in the season while, Hamilton is trying to put his faltering campaign back on the track.
