Teenagers are making the headlines in sports -- and how! Two months ago, Erriyon Knighton, an American teenager, beat Usain Bolt's record in 200m at a track league event. He overtook favourite Trayvon Bromell and smashed the legendary Jamaican's record by .02 seconds.
Another teen sportsman, this time toplining the world of football, is 18-year-old Barcelona player Ansu Fati. He has been compared with the likes of Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe.
British teen wonder Emma Raducanu has been making waves in the world of tennis, rocking Wimbledon with her debut performance. Unfortunately, she was forced to quit the event due to breathing difficulties in a match against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.
Now a 13-year-old Japanese girl is the darling of the crowd at the Tokyo Olympics. Momiji Nishiya has stolen the hearts of millions of her countrymen and sports buffs all over the world after she clinched the gold in the women's street skateboarding competition on Monday. Tears of joy ran down her cheeks as she realised she had become the country's youngest ever gold medal winner.
Interestingly, the other two winners in the category were also teenagers: Brazilian Rayssa Leal, 13, and Funa Nakayama, 16.
Her win created a double impact in skateboarding for Japan as compatriot Yuto Horigome won gold in the men's street event on Sunday.
