Dahiya bags silver as indias tally surge

Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya fetched more glory to the country with another silver on Thursday. He fought a bravely but faiuled to beat the Russian Olympic Committee's (ROC) Zavur Uguev in the final of the men's freestyle 57 kg at the Tokyo Olympics.

Dahiya had to settle for a silver as the Russian claimed the territory with some early points and did not allow Dhaiya to make a comeback. Dahiya had reached the final by beating Kazakhstan’s grappler Nurislam Sanayev with a last-minute fall in the semi-final.

Dhaiya is the second Indian to win a silver medal in Olympics after Sushil Kumar, who achieved the feat back in 2012. With the silver, the medal tally for India surged further as the men’s hockey team had claimed a bronze earlier in the day with a victory over Germany 5-4.

India has won five medals, including two silver, at the Tokyo Olympics so far. This is the second time the Russian defeated Dhaiya in a title bout to
maintain his stranglehold in the 57kg category. Earlier, Dahiya, a two-time Asian champion, had lsot the two-time world champion Uguev in World Championship final bout in a closely-fought contest. After the victory, the country of one billion plus plunged into celebration as tributes and rewards started to pour in.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar congratulated wrestler Dahiya for winning silver and also announced a cash prize of six hundred thousand dollars. "I wish you achieve new heights of success," the Chief Minister said.
The chief minister also promised to give the star athlete a government job. Dahiya comes from a small village of Haryana. He father is a
peasant.
