It was a tearful farewell. Football legend fought back tears the press conference and confirmed that he is leaving Barcelona on Sunday.
Messi said that Barcelona is the club of his life that he has played since he was 13 years old, and that he is very sad to leave the club he loves, and confirmed that he did everything possible to stay, as did Laporta (Barcelona president), but he indicated that The La Liga rules on financial regulation denied him to stay at the club.
Messi continued, “It is the worst moment of my life. I felt the love of the people and reciprocated their love and respect here.
In response to the questions, Messi denied that Barcelona did not do what he could to ensure his survival, and said, “Barcelona did everything in their power to renew my contract, and I also did the impossible to stay and I gave up 50% of my salary, but as Laporta explained, the club is in debt and it will become complicated if I was contracted.”
