A first-half goal from Igor Jesus gave Shabab Al Ahli a 1-0 win over Ajman at Rashid Stadium in matchweek 2 of the Adnoc Pro League.
Carlos Eduardo’s 10th-minute effort that was saved by Ajman keeper Ali Al Hosani served as an early warning of Shabab Al Ahli’s threat.
Less than seven minutes later, the hosts broke the deadlock, courtesy of a goal by Igor Jesus. The in-form Brazilian forward effort from outside the box nestled into the top corner of Al Hosani’s goal.
This marked Igor’s third goal in three matches against Ajman in the league and his first-ever league goal from outside the box.
Shabab Al Ahli keeper Majed Naser was called into action to deny Bubacarr Trawally’s effort after the restart.
Ajman continued to push for an equalizer and thought they found one when Mena rose to send a header into Naser’s net in the 72nd minute.
However, the goal was ruled out for a handball after VAR check.
Shabab Al Ahli have now made it two wins out of two ADNOC Pro League matches, while Ajman suffered their first defeat of the season.
Elsewhere, Ittihad Kalba earned their first point of the season after playing out a 0-0 draw with Al Jazira at Ittihad Kalba Stadium.
The home side came close to snatching a goal deep into injury time but were denied by Al Jazira's Salim Rashid and Ali Khaseif.
Neither side managed to make the breakthrough as they settled for a share of the spoils. This marked the second draw between Ittihad Kalba and Al Jazira in the league.
Ittihad Kalba are yet to grab their first win of the season. They now have one point only, after losing 1-0 to Sharjah in the season opener.
The defending champions, however, are on 4 points after beating Al Dhafra 2-0 in matchweek 1.
