Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is headed back to Manchester United, media reports have confirmed.
The English club said on Friday it has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of the Portugal forward, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical examination.
Ronaldo told Juventus on Thursday that he no longer wanted to play for the Italian club, coach Massimiliano Allegri said.
He played for United from 2003-09.
The deal put an end to speculations that the star was heading to join Manchester City.
Earlier reports suggested that Manchester City was the closest to the inclusion of Ronaldo, City coach Pep Guardiola's talk in the press conference before the Arsenal meeting on Saturday carried a lot of interpretations, especially after the Norwegian Solskjaer's talk about welcoming the return of the "Don" to the club that launched him to the world of fame.
When Guardiola was asked about Ronaldo, he said vaguely: “I can say that in three or four days anything can happen. From my personal point of view, there are a few players, including Ronaldo, who decide where they will play.”
He repeated: Cristiano is the one who decides which club he wants to play with, not Manchester City.
As for Solskjaer, he explicitly confirmed United’s desire to sign his former star, and said: “He is one of the legends of the club.”
He continued, "Cristiano is the greatest player of all time. If you ask me, I was lucky enough to play with him, let's see what happens."
