UAE’s Laila emerges winner at Fatima Bint Mubarak Cup

Al Kamda Stables’ Laila Al Marzooqui aboard Momentum emerged winner at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Cup. Laila took first spot after completing the ride in three hours and 30 minutes with an average speed of 28.54 km/h.

Mass Stables’ Camila Kart riding Orsini finished second with a time of 3:32:14 while Maitha Al Kaabi, aboard NB Angelina, representing Al Khayool stables took third spot with a time of 3:32:26. The race was restricted to private stables and held for a distance of 100 km in four stages.

Laila topped the race in all its stages to stamp her authority. The event took place at the Emirates Endurance Village in Al Wathba under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).

Thanks to their determination and hard work paving way for success while leaving a mark in the various races hosted by the Emirates, They are proving mettle in international events and special races for women. In honour and support for them to practice this noble sport, and we will continue to support them to represent their country in the best way,” Mother of the Nation added.

The race held with the support and directives of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, witnessed the participation of 141 riders from various clubs and stables of the country.

Dhs1.5 million was awarded to the winner while Dhs1 million was given to second placed and the jockey finishing third got Dhs500,000.

Champion Laila thanked and hailed Sheikha Fatima for her support to Emirati girls, and providing the opportunity for the riders to compete on such a big stage. Laila expressed delight after winning the title for the first time in her career. “The race was not easy, as the competition was very strong which is what characterises women's races, where there is great enthusiasm and the desire to win,” said Laila.
